Bear Creek Lake State Park

Biking Trails

The county offers a number of challenging rides for both the novice road biker and the experienced off-road rider. These scenic routes traverse hard-surface, dirt and gravel roads and offer a number of convenience and country stores along the way. Boating

There are boat landings on the James River at Columbia and at the Cartersville Bridge. Refer to the Cumberland State Forest for boat landings along the Willis River. The Appomattox River is accessible at the Appomattox River Bridge at Farmville, VA.

The Friends of the Appomattox are a group of local citizens and organizations that have come together with common interests of improving the water quality and recreational opportunities of the Appomattox River. Cumberland State Forest

The Cumberland State Forest is located north of Route 60 (Anderson Highway), west of Route 45 (Cartersville Road) and bordered by the Willis River. The office is at the intersection of Route 628 (Forest View Road) and Route 629 (Oak Hill Road). This area offers hunting, fishing, a sporting clay range, archery course, trails, a picnic shelter, and permanent camp sites.
